I know what you may be thinking and yes it does look like a bagel but that's were the similarity's end between your traditional bagel and a Simit (Turkish bagel).

A Simit is sweeter than your average bagel, and while the bagels we're accustomed to seeing in Toronto grocery stores are dense with a thick(ish) crust, the Simit is lighter and less 'doughy' but still maintains a crispy outer shell.

As I mentioned earlier there is a slight sweetness in a Simit that is a welcomed surprise with each bite, however not overly done that you would consider this a dessert. Just a hint of sweetness but makes all the difference when you pair it with goat cheese and tomato as seen in the photo above. As mentioned in blogTO's article the Simit's are "not boiled but rather coated in molasses and rolled in seeds for baking."

SIMIT & CHAI CO. has won me over. If you're ever in the King Street West area stop in for a Turkish coffee and Simit.

OH!.............don't forget to let me know what you think. I love reading your comments!
